“I HATE SUITS, ANYTHING BORINGLY APPROPRIATE ENOUGH TO WEAR TO AN OFFICE… AND WTF IS BUSINESS CASUAL ANYWAYS?!?”
This post is inspired by some great news I received a few weeks ago. For the past 2 years, I have been a full-time entrepreneur, working part-time jobs here and there for stability. The perks of being my own boss have come with a flexible schedule and creative wardrobe control with the only requirement that I’m fly EVERYWHERE I go. Welp, in a few weeks all that changes. I will be trading in my full-time entrepreneurial lifestyle for that of a 9 to 5er… again.
While I’m not exactly ecstatic about trading in my freedom for that of financial stability, a salary, and possible corporate career growth; I did find myself ecstatic about being able to SHOP for my new job! Then I realized, I hate suits and the concept behind “business casual.” Like, WTF is “business casual?” [inserts confused face] This term has always perplexed me because “BORING” comes to mind when I think of what I can wear in a professional office setting that is “appropriate.” I like colors, prints, and when I’m not wearing black… I like to dress in colors and prints. So, as I ventured into TARGET, I realized that I would need a starter office wardrobe [insert giddy face] where I could get the most bang for my (few ) bucks… and quick!
OK, so here’s what I found. LOTS and LOTS of colored and printed trousers, blouses, blazers, and accessories. My absolute favorite pieces are the matching Black x Green x Navy Blue Plaid Blazer and Pant combo. It’s very Ralph Lauren(esque) and the prepster in me seriously contemplated getting both the blazer and pant (I won’t… I promise). Also, many of the trousers come with cute complimentary colored skinny belts, which we can never have too many of.
Pairing bright colors and neutrals is in this fall and with plaid being all the rage, as well. I do think I’m gonna get a few pieces from Target to add to my starter office wardrobe because… I hate suits and anything appropriately boring enough to wear to an office. ;-)
